Are you a home improvement nerd?

If we need anything done on our home we have a professional contractor do it. However we don't subject our freinds to endless discussions of tedium about our home. Do you know any home improvement geeks? Is there a polite way to tell them that there renovations are BORING!

1. Home improvement geeks really enjoy what they talk about. When they start rambling about how they replaced the old entry tile with a new... cut them off by asking them about anything else they might enjoy talking about. I do not feel that even if you were to tell a home improvement geek that you found it boring he wouldn't understand. It is in his blood. He takes pride in his work and knowledge. Use his pride and knowledge elsewhere, like movies or music. So I say never ask him a home improvement question, mention the subject, and steer around it. If he still doesn't get the hint tell him that you don't want to hear about it because the subject reminds you of a subject that you would rather not think about... be creative. Good luck.
2. It's obvious that you are arrogant and don't take any interest in your "friends'" lives. Do you think that all of your "friends" are interested in everything that you have to say? BTW, learn to use spell check (too bad there isn't a grammar check); i before e, except after c, and "there renovations" should be "their renovations". Just because you don't enjoy making your house your home with your own skills and pride doesn't mean that other people don't. It's relaxing and enjoyable to many people, and they are proud of their work. Not everyone takes interest in the same things. Do you think that you're better than your "friends" because you pay other people to work on your house? You call these people your friends? Sounds to me like you don't know what a friend is.
3. Those that can do, those that can't contract. I am a HI nerd gal, but the last thing I do is boast about my projects to my friends. They can afford contracting and I can't so I've taught myself how to do everything I need done. I'm sure they have no interest in my DIYs so I leave it alone. BTW, they are only boring to you because you don't have an interest, that's okay, and if you really don't want to hear about their projects, just change the subject or tell them straight out it's not a topic you like talking about!
