My Home Depot

Can Home Depot add color to already custom-mixed paint to make it darker?

Hi! My sister got three gallons of Home Depot paint -- not off the shelf, but mixed as one of their colors -- and has decided it's too light. Would Home Depot add some color to make it darker? Thanks for all the great answers!

  1. Yes and same goes for Lowe's. Regards, Dale
  2. yes they can only they can't take it out
  3. They CAN add tint, but they CAN'T guarantee the resulting color. They can't even guarantee an exact match between the 3 cans.
  4. Has the area been primed? A common issue with paint colors ending up too light once they're applied is the bright white primer coat that goes on first. One great solution to making sure all that time spent on finding just the right shade of your favorite color has not gone to waste is using a tinted primer. It made all the difference in my living room where my wife and I used "10-shot" tinted primer for a light brown color and "20-shot" tinted primer on the crown molding/baseboards for a deep burgundy.
