My Home Depot

Ever have Home Depot or Lowes install kitchen cabinets?

I need to replace my kitchen cabinets, countertop, sink/faucet. I'm on a limited budget and can't do the job myself. Anyone have experiences, good or bad, with Lowes or Home Depot doing this type of job? Any other suggestions? Thanks for your advice in advance!

  1. We build houses and the first place that we went was to Lowe's. The cabinets were reasonable, but the installion was outrageous. They wanted 1200.00 just for installation. We found a cabinet company in our town with similar cabinets for less and install was 400.00. I have also seen carpenters that charge 25.00 per box cabinet to install.
  2. I'd get several estimates. I have never used either one, but a friend of mine asked Home Depot for a bid on installing a new AC. Their bid was more than twice what a local AC company wanted. I think they add a surcharge when they arrange an installation for you.
  3. dont use them....they hire, sub, the job out to local people....and they charge way to much....u can buy there but they will want 100% payment before the order and 4-6 weeks to get them... lic. gen. contractor
  4. I have never heard of a good experience with either of these two box-stores, and have heard of many bad ones. Where I live each of these two stores requires payment in full before the job is completed. This is very telling. In many states this is illegal, and it is not the practice recommended by the Professional Contractors and Remodeling associations. It is hard work, but talk to people, get on line and find a licensed contractor who has done similar, successful work in your area. You will be able to get better quality work at a better price - even if you buy your materials at Home Depot/Lowes.
