Should building homes for the Haitians be the responsibility of the U.S. taxpayer?
We can provide some kind of temporary shelter, food, water and security. But as far as providing Haiti with rebuilding their homes, we have millions of homeless right here in the U.S. If they didn't have insurance on their shantys. Even if they had insurance, that insurance would only rebuild the shanty not some highrise building. We need to build homes for our homeless first.

- How about we just get the whole world into this and build homes for everyone together?
- it is time for America to stop being an enabler of dysfunction around the world!!!
- This will be a huge problem for the Democrats. The majority of the people of the United States are not going to want their tax dollars to go to rebuild Haiti when we have homeless people right here in the U.S. and more every day. This is the responsibility of the united nations and the people of Haiti. Short term help, yes. Long term help, no.
- NO, it should be the responsibility of the Haitian people. They should be able to borrow from China just like we will have to.
- No, no, no, no way.
- Haven't we already done that? I thought that was why the buildings were so poorly made. So much money and so many crooks...
- The moment we tried to help our own, the paranoid right would start to scream socialism. We would then have civil unrest, and a bunch of morons teabagging about how unjust our government is and how they are losing their liberties. As far as trying to rebuild Haiti, I am not against helping them so far as the burden is not on our backs alone.
- This is definitely not our responsibility, but we'll probably get stuck with it anyway.
- Did you fight to send the money and aid back that the world sent us after 9/11? You are right that there are plenty of homeless here. We should be doing something about that. This country actually has enough money to do both. We are choosing not to help our own. That is unfortunate. I don't think that we should use that as a reason to not help other though.
- NO it should not be
- The Government won't help us not lose our homes or jobs from this meltdown. But they will spend ten's of billions to give free expensive earthquake resistant homes to Haitians and the Jobs that will be given to them to make it happen. Is it is our responsibility that there are no trees in Haiti? Is it our responsibility to educate them in western values and culture? Unlike the Dominican the Republic which is on the same exact island has 7 times the economy that Haiti has. Is lush is trees and farms. and accepted western values and mixed with Europeans. The African slaves in Haiti did not have enough time under westerners to be simulated into western thought. They drove out all the whites. They took there African pagan traditions and mixed it with Catholicism. In their there own worst enemies.A majority of Haitians would leave if they had the ability to. All 9 million Haitians should move to Florida and let the whole Island become the Dominican Republic.
- With a little help from all over the world, new shelter could be build cheaply and soundly for the Haitians but their government would rather keep them poor, helpless and hopeless. They need a new ruling class that believes in humanitarian effort and rebirth of the human spirit through democracy and equal opportunity for all. The Haitians need help from the US and China to over throw their government and break out the poverty and pestilence that have called home for too long. The Haitians are the salt of the earth. The nicest people you would ever want to meet. They just need a chance, an opportunity for a better life, freedom from their dictatorship!
