Why do builders use angles when building homes and offices?

Public Comments

  1. Most floors, walls and ceilings are 90 degrees to each other. Stairs and roofs are designed using angles. Trimming a doorway or window that is not 90 degrees is not easy and uses angles a lot. Figuring crown molding cuts.
  2. A triangle is a stable structure that doesn't rack. So angles are used to strenghten members that are 90 degrees to each other to lock them in place. A roof is angled (pitched) so as to let water drain easily off of it. A 3,4,5 triangle is an easy way to establish a 90 degree angle
