Are there any homes or building materials for homes that will resist termite infestation?

I am looking into buying a new home or having a new home built, and I am concerned with all the future problems I might face as a homeowner, including the possibility of termites. Are there any type of homes or materials that resist termites? Like brick (not brick veneer), concrete, or stone masonry? Or anything else? Thanks. :)

  1. Solid Concrete Block exterior wall construction, and steel wall studs.
  2. Termites eat wood. Thats it. You're dumb.
  3. I have a friend who built a home out of concrete. He has no termite issue, and it looks like a nice, "normal" house. He did it himself, and rather inexpensively, he told me.
  4. Azek is an excellent wood trim substitute. It can be milled like wood and painted.
  5. Concrete is a good choice to avoid termites. And to the person who said she was dumb and that termites eat wood, that was really rude, especially since she didn't mention wood at all. If you're not going to be mature and answer questions without insults, then you shouldn't bother responding at all. It's a legitimate question. Yes, termites eat wood, but if there are building materials that can keep them out, then they won't eat the wood interiors.
  6. there are plenty of rot resistant materials available (metal studs, vinyl trim boards, masonary products and pressure treated lumber) but remember as you decorate an interior it's tough to hang a picture in masonary or metal. The real key is maintenance keep bushes and trees pruned this allow's a house to dry. stay up on exterior paint and check caulking at least yearly.
  7. Along with all the other answers, you may want to think about what other problems you may encounter if you use wood substitutes. For example concrete or bricks may have rot problems where wood doesn't. Just a little more to think about before putting aside wood totally.
