Inside renovations for condos?
I'm planning on buying a one bedroom condo. It's huge for a one bedroom and I'm thinking somewhere down the road I can add a den or another small bedroom. Can I do that? What are the normal laws for renovations of condo.

- In terms of building code, you can do that. It terms of the condo "association", you would have to ask them what you can and can't do in terms of renovation
- you might want to check out the rules and regulations of that condo. you can search for a condo association online. They'll have their rules and regulations along with the bylaws. Which should tell you what you need to know.
- It will depend on the restrictions that are in place for this particualar condo association. Get a copy of the CC&Rs from the seller's agent before you make any commitment. From a practical standpoint, you can probably add walls, etc. inside as long as you don't affect anything structural (e.g. move load bearing walls, etc.) The way I'd look at it: if it can be easily brought back to the way it was without leaving evidence that it was ever altered, then you can probably get away with it regardless of what the CC&Rs say.
- I recommend that you call you local build codes municipal office to get all the facts for your area of residence!!! I would also recommend that you run this past your condo association!!!
