Do Grupe or Centex build quality homes? I am considering both builders for a new home. Does anyone know anything about the structural quality of a Grupe or Centex Home? Do any of these builders use cheap materials? Do they cut corners when building? Tell me about your experience with the quality of your Grupe or Centex home.
Has KB Homes improved their building quality? My husband and I are currently looking into buying a KB Home in the Austin, TX area. We love the home BUT I have read a lot of bad things about KB. That makes me worry but also all of the bad reviews about KB are over 5 years old. Can someone please help? Thanks!
Who builds high quality Modular homes? I live in Southern California, I am considering buying a modular home. Does anybody know who makes a good quality home? And it will be helpful to know what the extra cost will be as well i.e laying foundation, septic or sewer hook ups? Is this also included when financing?
Are the homes that are built on the ABC show "extreme makeover, home edition", built with quality? since they're building the house in anywhere between 5-7 days, is it possible that the house is built with quality? i don't know anything about home maintenance/repair so just curious if a house that is built in a week is not going to fall apart in a few years and cost the homeowner $$$ to maintain the home. i mean i'm sure they're doing their best effort but i certain things just take time to do a good job. nuts and bolts, nooks & crannies, u know what i mean?
Can you have a home in America built with quality concrete walls like homes in Europe? I don't like the architectural quality of homes here in the United States. The walls are cheap drywall instead of concrete, the frame of the houses are just planks of wood instead of stacked cinder blocks, and the exterior of homes here look so frail. Basically, houses in the United States are way too expensive for the poor quality they are. These houses won't last for centuries to come. This is the only country in the world that builds homes so quickly and poorly. When I build my house, I want it to be worth the 100k+ that I invest for it. Is it legal to have your built out of concrete here in the U.S?
are sitterle homes good quality homes? i am looking into building a home. i started shoppping around for a contractor. so far i have been very disappointment because the price to build a home is so high. I went to see a model home at Sitterle homes and i have to say i did find a home i liked and it is also within my budget. But i need advise if its a good investment to build with them. Are their homes good quality?
Realistic sanity check on Ryan Homes build quality & warranty coverage.? So I've been all over Google and I've seen the horror stories about how if you buy a Ryan Home you're guaranteed to get a leaky roof, a floor that bows, or they'll just going to keep my deposit in case something goes wrong during the contract. It's not that I don't believe what the coherent ones (among many incoherent ones) are saying, but Ryan Homes builds a crap-load of homes every year and I can only find maybe 20 unique complaints (across several sites) for 2008 and 2007 combined. Most of the serious issues are from 2003 and before. So if you own(ed) or know someone who owns a Ryan Home please, give me a sanity check. Consumer complaint sites are not Amazon - no one runs around saying how great their builder was on the internet across a dozen sites and buys a domain to feature how much they love Ryan. They only talk when they're pissed. So, are they as bad as these people make it out to be? I'm just looking for some balance here. In case it matters to you, I'm looking at building in Maryland. Thank you.
Are older houses, in general, of a better build quality than more modern homes? I know there is always a general concept of "they don't build 'em like they used to" with most things. I'm always skeptical of this and wondered what people thought in terms of housing. I know custom made homes from any era are probably of the best quality. My question is, on average, is a home from the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, etc generally of better quality than a home built in 2005? If it is true that the quality of construction has declined over time, when did this trend begin? The 70's? 80's? Earlier? Thanks for your input.
If you are a CP Morgan home owner, do you fine that the homes are not build with quality? I purchased a home from CP Morgan 5 motnts ago and ir has been a nightmare. They have contractors that work for them that does not know what they are doing. I have so many issues and the Warranty department is a joke. Many people in my community are complaining about the builders, the cheapness of the material they use. They are not considerate of your time or feelings. Does anyone share my feelings?
What do you think of manufactured homes? I think good quality manufactured homes by companies like Palm Harbor and Silvercrest are just as good quality as site-built stick-built homes. Of course the good quality manufactured homes cost a lot more than the cheap ones. Manufactured homes have the advantage of being built inside a controlled environment and away from the weather. They also are built more precisely and are more air-tight than traditional stick-built homes. I think good quality manufactured homes are very nice homes. Opinions?
quality of simonds homes? Has anyone had any experience with Simonds Homes and the quality of homes they've built? Any hassles or bad constructions etc? I'm looking at building with them but have heard a few horror stories.
Are modular homes stronger than conventional stick-built homes? I am talking about modular homes (not manufactured homes). Modular homes are built to local codes (not HUD), just like conventional stick-built homes. And modular homes are stick-built also, but I have heard they use 30% more wood than conventional homes because modular homes have to be transported, therefore they are stronger than conventional homes. I have heard that modular homes are made indoors in a controlled environment, which is better, and are made more precisely with more quality control than conventional homes. I have also heard they appreciate the same as conventional homes. Opinions?
Why does modern family housing have so little soul? I'm thinking about the modern housing estates common all over the United Kingdom. I imagine other countries have their equivalents- well built but flimsy, plain and full of gimmicks. By comparison our victorian, georgian and Edwardian stock are solidly built and very beautiful to look at. Why do modern builders not build quality homes anymore?, just economics, or do people prefer modern houses?. Would there be a market for a company producing houses in the traditional styles.
I need to buy a quality home theater receiver on the warm end of the sound scale? I want a quality build and so will consider any of the better quality brands (Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo, etc) . I will be pairing it with Energy Reference speakers, which I would classify as being "bright". I want a receiver that will add some warmth to the sound. Has anyone done a comparison or can anyone recommend a article in one on the sound publications.

How to improve indoor air quality in a historic building? I am managing a youth group home residing in a historic building. The building is 100 years old and it does not have central air circulation system. Time to time the building always smell bad, especially near restrooms no matter how much we clean them. It is too difficult and expensive to install air circulation sysytem in an old building like this. Is there any other ways to get rid of the smell? Is there any thing I can spray to make the air fresh? Thank you very much in advance.
Finding Spot Builders in Central Florida - building a new home - where to start?!? We live in Central Florida and would like to buy some land and have a home built on it. We have attempted to research this online and with a realtor and can't seem to get any information. We have no idea the cost of building a new home vs. an existing home, or where to go to find a spot builder - all of the new home construction places we have found only build within their own communities and are now harassing us to move onto their land instead. Does anyone know of a good spot builder in central florida who will build a quality home on vacant land (not already in a community)?

Suggestions on building a new home? OK-I know that I have asked this question or something similiar to it many times before, BUT, I want to be thoroughly researched before we start. We are in the planning stage of builidng a new home. We have 2 children, ages 4 and 7 who are very active. We have met once with our designer and have basically come up with the fact that we want a 2-story "Farmhouse" type home. We are going to be building on a 200+ acre farm, and wanted to stick with the theme. I want to build as much house as I possible can within my budget. Does anyone have any suggestions on things that I can put into the house? Any suggestions on upgrades? Any suggestions on where we can find materials, etc. at discounted prices without sacrificing quality. I want this home to be something that we can live in and enjoy for the rest of our lives, and I want everything to be of top quality. Any info that anyone can give is appreciated, especially from builders! And for other, what do u have that u can't live without?

info on quality energy efficient prebuilt homes? I saw a home built by students at a Florida Univeristy that was completely energy efficient. Heat and cooled by solar power. Looked like a home from an alien planet but really liked it. Would like information on how to obtain information about possibly manufacturing this type of home or options to franchise this type of home.

We know that mod/man. homes have excellent layouts, but we are worried about the building quality. Also, we were wondering if overall it would be cheeper than site built. Why are "McMansion" style neighborhoods the only place to build a home? Why am I trapped to this type of surrounding if I want to build my own home and live conveniant to work? Why is my choices when wanting to build a home limited to "McMansion wannabe neighborhoods"? Why is this style soo popular nowadays? Even the lower end homes are like that. No originality , no character. Home owner association, codes, I think, it is impossible now to build a good quality home that is small, modestly sized home with charm and character nowadays! Where can you build them? All neighborhood have codes and stuff that limit you to a "McMansion" that is way too big and too expensive and too lacking in charm! Is UK like this? (I live in USA by the way) How is it possible nowadays? Buy land out in the countryside seems the only way, but even then , they also have codes! and it too inconveniant! KEY WORDS HERE ARE SMALL (Inexpensive) and CHARM KEY WORDS HERE ARE SMALL (Inexpensive) and CHARM
Are there reputable homebuilders out there who assist you in building a new home? I am looking for a homebuilder who will assist me in building a new home. I thought that maybe it would be less expensive that way. But I don't know if any homebuilders are willing to do that, because they may not be able to guarantee the quality of the work. Does anyone know any REPUTABLE homebuilders who will assist me in building a home?
has the quality in the materials used in home construction plummeted? I recently drove by an affluent neighborhood where several homes were being built- I couldn't get over the amount of flimsy fiber board that was being used- yet these homes would eventually be million dollar homes. Is in my imagination, or has the quality in materials used in home construction plummeted? Anyone here buy a new house, and discovered the house started to fall apart in a short time?
Who is a quality affordable home builder in San Antonio and what is the best first step? My husband and I want to put our house on the market. We are planning to build a new home at Medina Lake where we own land. We thought we should find a builder and finalize plans before putting our house on the market. Not sure how the timing would all work. Anyone been here before? Our first choice of builder right now is Design Tech. Any opinions? BTW, we are looking for a custom home builder, not just a build-on-your-lot builder.

Quality of Brock Homes? I'm looking to buy a house built in the 80s by a builder named Brock Homes. I am unable to find any information on the quality of its houses. Please help! Thank you very much. The house in question is located in Southern California. I believe Brock Homes is located in Santa Ana, CA. Thanks.
Why are homes built out of wood instead of stone? Wood gets water damage, termites and doesn't last long like stone, which also has better insulation, is sturdier and doesn't fall apart. Considering the hundreds of thousands+ people pay for a cheap house, why don't they use quality material at least?

How to best store/play mp3s with home stereo quality? No home PC. I like to keep my laptop at work.? I have loads of mp3s that I listen to on my laptop computer and mp3 player. I do not have a home PC. In order to hear the mp3s at home I need to bring my laptop back and forth from work. I want a system at home that plays and stores the mp3s but without buying another computer. I am tired of hearing the music on the little speakers that attatch to portable mp3 players. I want something with home stereo capabilities - excellent sound quality. The ideal system would store and catalogue the music and either attatch to or have built in amplifier/equalizer features and of course, have great speakers or be able to hook up to them. I do not need wireless functions. Most of them are used in tandem with a home PC anyhow - which I am trying to avoid.

People in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisianna area know anything about these homes....? I've gotten some great advise on Jim Walters Homes from Y!A users. My next question is, how do they compare in price and quality to Southwest Homes? I stopped in today to Southwest Homes and got some floor plans and prices. I really liked what I saw. I'm thinking Jim Walters Homes might be even more affordable. Anybody know how they compare? Do you know anybody who has built either? http://www.southwesthomestexas.com/2100-2800.asp
I am thinking of buying a home? There is a new building which is still under construction, but you can buy in advance. Has anybody had bad experiences with buying a home not already built? Quality is also on my priority list. I would not want to be stuck with a home where the paint starts cracking the first week after you move in. What are the things that I should look for to ensure I am getting quality? Thanx dragonfly, i see your point, but I was thinking that i might be able to get a better deal, since it is not built yet, and the builders need to raise the capital.
What do I need to get higher quality home recordings? I'm building a small home studio. Going from Garageband to Pro Tools LE. Currently I use an M-Audio Fast Track as my interface, a Power Mac G4 w/ built in soundcard. That's about it at the moment. My main problem is knowing what piece of equipment will directly effect a better quality sound. I don't get enough volume out of my recordings. What should be my first new item...a new soundcard? A Power Amp? New Interface? All of the above? Trying to make sense of this stuff, but there's so much to learn. Please help!
How would you suggest controlling costs in NASCAR without affecting racing quality? Recently, Kenny Wallace on NASCAR RaceDay built by The Home Depot and Mark Ashenfelter and Marty Smith on ESPN.com have talked about/written about how the cost of racing in NASCAR has become nearly untenable for some teams. How would you control the spiraling cost of being in NASCAR-at all 3 major levels-without diminishing racing quality? Please be as specific as possible.
Mahogany wood used to cover the exterior of a single family home? I am an appraiser working in San Diego. I am seeing mahogany wood used extensively in the building of high quality single family homes. In particular, I am looking at a home approx. 5000 square feet. The exterior is totally covered in mahogany with the interior also utilizing mahogany trim. Does anyone have some idea of the cost it takes for this type of construction using mahogany? Thank you!
KB homes in Houston? I am buying a home in northwest Houston. I found a very nice house that was built in 2002. It seems to have been well maintained (at least I found no defects in and out). I was ready to buy it, but I found the builder was KB homes that has had bad reputation for its low quality materials and construction. If anyone knows how good/bad the quality of KB homes built in Aberdeen subdivision in 2002 or so is, please let me know. I also would want to know if it's good for me to buy a KB home "looking good" or not in spite of their reputation. Please share your opinions with KB either generally or specifically. Thanks!
Are pre-fabricated homes very good quality? I thought about buying a pre-fab home, but I have heard some people say that they are cheaply built and start deteriating after 10 years. I guess the same could be said of any home that you own if you don't take care of it, but these people were saying that it actually falls apart after several years. I don't know whether to believe this or not, so I though that I would ask the Yahoo Answers community. If you know that they are of good quality, could you include a link to a website for pre-fabricated homes?
