Metal Building as a home who finances? There are several homes in our area that look like a metal building on the outside/barn type exterior but they are actual homes, does anyone know who finances that as a mortgage? I have contacted several banks who say they cannot finance them due to the fact they have nothing to compare it to, unless a home similar to what you are wanting to build has sold within the last 6 months they won't approve a new construction loan? There has to be someone out there that finances these type of homes I see them throughout our town.

Metal Building for Home use? What is wrong with using a prefab metal building and converting it to a home? Are there building codes against this?
Ever heard of building a machine shed (metal building) and making part of it your living quarters? I want to buy a home, but my boyfriend wants to buy land. We can't afford to buy land and build a house. He says it's really cheap and convenient to build a "machine shed" and actually design your home inside the building. I've seen a house that is actually a working barn and the family just lives in a decent sized portion of the barn. It looks totally normal on the inside but from the outside, it's just a barn. Has anyone ever heard of this?
Question about a radio and a metal building? My grandfather has a shop behind his home where he spends a great deal of time working on random projects. He's a very handy guy, and is in the construction business and all of his equipment is in this building. He likes to have the radio on, but because the building is metal, it is impossible to get anything to come in clearly. He told my mother that the radio works perfectly until the lights are turned on, and then the combination of the metal and lights turn the radio signal to static. Does anyone know of any devices that could possibly fix this?
Why doesn't North America Start building more inorganic houses verses organic homes? In most other counties they build inorganic homes which save a lot of energy as far as heating and cooling. They last a lot longer. The floors are usually ceramic tile and then carpet which is easy to clean and more sanitary. Inorganic homes only have one flaw which is the roof. They are useally two heavy. but that can be fixed easilly. Inorganic material means brick, metal or cinder blocks ect. Where organic material means anything that used to be alive like wood or plastic ect.

What are the advantages of using metal studs in a home? I am considering having a home built and I am leaning towards using metal studs as opposed to the traditional wood ones. Anybody with any experiance in this area? Comments, suggestions!?!?! Any problems with wiring or radio/tv reception? Lightning? Static problems? I was told early metal studs caused grime & dust to be attracted to the walls... The termite issue is one of my main concerns being that I live in the South. I also am considering metal studs because of the lessened fire risks & cheaper insurance rates. Fire and Ice - that is an interesting point that I would have never though of. Thanks for letting me know!
Plumbing problem concerning old metal pipes for sink drain.? Are the old style metal drain pipes (home built in the 20's) connected with a bead of solder? My husband is downstairs wrenching away and I think it's going to take more than manpower to disconnect the piping. Also, the pipe was so corroded that a portion of it already snapped in half with just a bit of pressure. We are replacing with PVC of course. ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

What kind of loan for land with a metal building sale? We have 10 acres, 9 ares are AG and 1 acre is for a homestead. We were planning on building but plans changed and we are moving instead. We build a 40*50 metal building with an apartment on the property which is where we have been living. We have some potential buyers that are having a difficult time getting a loan since it is not a home loan and it is not just a land loan. We are stumped as far as any ideas for what they can do. Please let me know if someone has information that can help us sell this property.
Where to find floor plan for plain steel metal warehouse building? I am buying a steel building that you would see used for a barn or garage. This will be my home, but I can't find floor plans that accomodate a box footprint or more specifically 50x60 deminsions. There will only be 4 ext. walls, and a 14' ceiling. Is there anywhere I can go that specializes in this type of home or website that could help? All the steel builidng sites are geared toward commerical or agricultural applications and not residential. I am looking to frame and sheetrock the inside just like any other home, but just with four metal ext. walls and a metal roof. I plan on pouring and staining the slab and having that as my interior floor surface. It will be urban and modern. All urban/modern home sites are gearded toward pre-fab multi-dimensional plans...not what I want. Can someone please help me?
Question about the feasibility of enclosing a mobile home with metal frame? I've been considering cost ideas with a new home. I've been thinking about using a mobile home as a starting point so I can live in it as I build around it. What are the pros and cons of doing this because I want to widen it as I go, so I thought about enclosing it with a metal frame and metal on the outside. I've seen homes where people have converted shop buildings and it turned out quite nice looking.

why are we still using wood to build homes? living in this age knowing that the forest are depleting, why are we still using wood to built our houses? We have tons and tons of metals from recycled materials that works just as good or even better to support houses. I know that wood may be cheaper than metals, but isn't there anything that can be done about it?

very interesting dreams; ex-bf getting metal welded to face? elevator without a building? interpretations? i know this is long, but the first good opinion gets ten points, promise. i will go star all your questions, too. i really can't figure these dreams out. first dream, two nights ago: i can't remember most of it, but i was with my current boyfriend and we stopped in my home town on the way back from some kind of journey. i remember the environment being very monotone, little greenery, etc. (which is unusual, i live in west virginia). we stopped at some two story restaurant in this secluded part of my home town (the building doesn't exist). we went inside and up the stairs; my ex-boyfriend (we dated for 2 years and broke up a year and a half ago) worked there with his cousin (who is most of the reason we broke up; they are best friends and she didn't like me), his cousin's boyfriend, and my ex-boyfriends stepfather, who thought i was awesome. he said hi to me and then acted like he was long-time pals with my current boyfriend, hugging him and such, who he has never met, i am sure. we ordered food and left. i hung behind on the stairs to listen to their conversation. my ex's stepfather said to my ex "i think she was hitting on you" and smiled. my ex-boyfriend, usually very soft-spoken, freaked out and tried to fight his stepfather. they were about to throw punches when the stepfather sees me spying on the stairs and says "elin?" they start running after me, but for some reason i run as fast as i can back to my boyfriend and we drive away. second dream, last night: i am at some carnival thing, and all the clubs i was involved with in high school are there, but nobody needs my help (i am in college as of this past semester, and i am not doing clubs anymore). i was hanging out with these random girls my little brother knew, because nobody else wanted to hang out with me. there was a large fridge where everyone stored their keys and wallets just sitting outside. i lost all of my expensive makeup and couldn't remember anything for some reason. the other items in the fridge (ex - cell phones, ipods) were all nicer and newer than mine. everyone was putting down my ideas and i was wandering around alone, and everyone knew me, but nobody said hello. my other ex-boyfriend, who has really changed (he is really douche-baggish and works out a ton, so he has this robot look to him) was in this dark chamber getting metal attached to his face and everyone we knew was just watching. i said "poor josh" and his friend leah was just like mhmm to me, like my opinion didnt matter. i was with my little brother's friends and they went to a restaurant. there was an elevator with 2 doors (one in front and one in back), nothing else (no building with it, just sitting in the carnival like a phone booth, almost). both were open and the girls walked through the front one and just walked into the space in the back and fell. i looked down and there was no bottom. the elevator was numbered strangely, with the numbers 1,3,4, arranged from top to bottom. i was confused, so i pressed 3 and it went down really fast and i was in this very chic restaurant - all white everything, with red tables and chairs. the girls were sitting at a table and looked at me strangely, so i didnt sit with them. i went over to the waiters and started a conversation. they told me there was no basement and there was no first and second floor - it was strange because i am very shy, lately (i was social in high school) and i talked to these strangers with ease. then, i woke up. please help!
Can a regular person build a house themselves? OK...... So i was watching TV and saw that this family built a metal building packaged home by themselves. Is this something that is actually doable? My husband and i want to buy a house but do not have a lot of money..... I need some good ideas..... Land is pretty reasonable where we are and i have found some metal home building site that have houses for $20,000..... Have any of you done this? Or heard of anyone who has done this? Know any place i can find on building your own home. We figure that they take volunteers for habitat for humanity with no training so maybe it isn't that hard to build a house..... HELP!!!!!????
Do Metal Recyclers Accept Old Appliances? My husband and I have just bought our first home. Built in 1961, it contains all original appliances (fridge, range/oven combo, washer and dryer). We have NO interest in keeping these antiques around. Do metal recycling centers accept or recycle appliances? I don't want these appliances around, but I'd like to avoid just tossing them into a landfill.

Is there any large items that i can write off. I already write off such things as meals, miles, phone, etc. Or is there any way that i can transfer the amount i owe into a retirement account or some type of investment account. Or could i even start another business with this money. I already have an office inside their building so a home office would not help. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. TIA
How do I stop foreclosure on my property? How do I stop foreclosure on my home/shop? I live in a metal building and have 33 acres and have been unemployed over 1yr. My lender is calling the note in 18 days no one will lend to me because the building has more storage area2/3 than living1/3 will not meet requirements for home loan and if it did the property would be worth more than the home to get home loan.
Need advice on paint for a metal roof? My home was built in 1938. The roof on the back side is original metal. Other than needing painted it appears to be in good shape. I painted it about 15 years ago,and I'm pretty sure I used an oil base paint, but can't really remember. I need suggestions on what type of paint to use.
Where to find or make metal trim for home bar DIY? I'm building a home bar and I need a metal trim to clean up the edges where my wood meets. Where can I find metal trim that is high polished or chrome to place on the edges of the bar. What type of garbage can do you think most American homes have? I need to find out for a webshow. We are building a set of the inside of a garbage can and would like to know what kind of garbage cans most Americans have. A classic round metal garbage can? A plastic round garage can? A large, plastic garbage can given to you by the waste management company that gets picked up by a mechanical claw?
Does a Motor Rotor Winding Need To Be Made From Metal? So, i am building a home made motor atm. Just wondering if my rotor coils need to be wound around a metal stator to produce a magnetic effect or, is the simple act of winding them into coils what gives them a magentism effect?
I have a building contractor who is not finished with the job, ignoring my calls, and did a bad job. Help!? The building contractor has been paid in full (which was a bad move) and I feel he doesn't have any incentive to come back and finish the job, plus take care of things that weren't done right the first time. FYI - the job was to put all new windows in the home, cover the home in new siding, put a new metal roof on the home, and a few other extra things. We have had siding pieces that just fall off (no wind or rain that would have ripped it off). It just simply fell off. Their answer to repairing it, is to just use screws. The screws are put in on the outside of the siding and are exposed. It doesn't look right. The contractor and the siding company are ignoring my calls and I don't know what to do. HELP!

Where can I find metal columns? I have a home that was built in 1983. There are very old, very dated columns that are on top of half wall particians. The wooden columns are 3 feet tall and about 3 inches in diameter. I am having a very difficult time finding decorative metal columns online that match what I am looking for. I am looking for possibly cast iron or something that looks like that to put in the place of the ugly wood ones. Where can I find something like this? Links would be great! Thanks!
do old home radiators make loud banging noises and metal tapping noises when they turn on? I recently moved into an apartment building built in the 1920's, it has 2 radiators in it for heating, and when it turns on it sounds like someone is inside the wall hitting the pipes with a hammer, and making banging and tinkering sounds. It scared me so bad the first night i almost left. I just want to know if this is normal. Or if it might have a problem and need to be fixed.
We have found massive amounts of building debris in our front and back yards. Some of it glowed. Toxic? We built our home 6 years ago in a beautiful neighborhood. There was an existing 100 yr old pecan tree in back and we chose our lot based on that. The builder also supplied three other trees and complete sod in the front yard. We had them plant two elms in the front and one in back. We also paid almost $2000 extra to place sod in back. The elm in back died within a month and the grass deteriorated shortly after. We decided recently to grow grass in the back and after several attempts with seeding and sodding we had no luck. I thought aeration might help but everytime something was placed in the ground we pulled out various building materials... shingles, drywall, rusted metal, nails and tools. I worked night and day to remove as much as possible and encountered something strange. When I would dig at night I would sometimes hit something with my shovel that gave a soft pinkish glow. The light would fade after about 5 seconds. It usually occurred in the top 1 to 6 inches of the soil. Anyone ever heard of this and is it harmful? Our builder was Engle homes who now have lawsuits filed against them for building on old bombsites. I don't think we have bombs to worry about but I wonder what else may be down there!!
Can you buy doors to fit a pre-existing metal frame? I am interested in purchasing new entry doors for my home. The house was built in the 1950's. I have metal framing around my doors and all door companies want to take it out. I just want doors. So, my question is can I buy doors to place on my existing metal frames. I really like my metal frames and also how much would it cost to replace doors with pre-existing frames.
Where can i buy gears for building my own projects? I just want to buy some plain gears of all different sizes for my own experimentation at home... I dont care if they are plastic or metal... WiFi Experts: Rural internet setup--want to share to another building.? I live in a metal cabin recently build out in the country. I have a wireless high-speed internet connection that I want to share to my shop building, which is about 500ft away. Unfortunately, there is no way (short of trenching) to run a hard wire. My current setup is using a USR8054 wifi router for my home use (metal cabin). The router has fixed antennas, so I cannot connect a directional antenna. My idea is to connect a router to the existing USR router via Cat5 mounted in the corner closest to the shop so that I can install a directional antenna (looking at Cantenna) directly to that router's antenna port outside the building. There are no trees, structures, or anything else in between these two buildings. In my shop, I would have a directional antenna connected to the LAN card or to a third router. Would this work? Can you connect router-to-router to share wifi? If so, how? Any other suggestions on making this work? Thanks for your help!
Does anyone know how to bulid a homemade burner for a kiln? I'm building a furnace at home to melt metal, fire clay, and melt glass. My dad recomended using an LP weed torch as the burner, but I don't really want to pay $35 if it may not work. So if anyone knows how to make a burner, or a really cheap one, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
Building a 1.5 million dollar home? I have about 1.5 million dollars to build a home in the virginia suburbs around D.C. I want the house to be about 5500 square feet with a basement, main and second level and the house will be a perfect L shape. The roof will be metal and the house will either be made of stone, brick, or stucco. Can someone give me an estimate of how much it would be to build this house? Thank you.

Where can I find washers suitable for the washers game? I'm building a home-made washers game. I've already made the boxes, but I cant seem to find washers big enough (about 4 inches in diameter). They also have to be made of metal and not rubber. I've already checked home depot. Online stores arent really an option, so what type of specialty store would be my best bet?
Engine choice for homebuilt? I am considering using a Subaru engine in a home built, all metal ,Sonex . Has anyone used these engines ,and are you happy with the performance?
Do new modular homes (not trailers) like Sun Vally from the maker Deer Valley hold there value over time.? I was shopping for a cheaper way to the American dream and come across some unbelieveable deals on Modular homes. Not cheap made homes, 2 x 6 Studs, 100% Insulated, Metal roofing, Crown Molding, Hand laid tiles. On par with most stick built custom homes for 1/4 the price. Very impressive homes usually around 1800 sq ft Heating and Cooled. Equals out to about $55.00 sq ft to maybe $70.00 for the top of the line models. Are they worth it and does anybody have a Sun Valley made by Deer Valley Home?

Tips for using metallic paint? I am planning to paint the ceiling of our newly built home theater/bar with Valspar Earth Elements Brilliant Metals paint in Honeyed Bronze. Building alternate housing. Crates? I have known about them for a while, but, I now have a job, and I am just toying with the idea of buying land and building my own home. Just playing around with the idea, I have heard of people buying used shipping crates for considerably small amounts of money, and then turning them into homes. I just searched for more information on shipping crate homes, and all I really found were a few pictures, and some basic information on shipping crates, shipping company's, and interesting, but not-so-helpful information. I want to know what to DO with a crate once I bought one. How do you anchor it safety to the ground? How do you add siding and a roof, to make it blend in with other "normal" wood frame homes. (If thats what I wanted to do). What about plumbing and electrical? Abstract shapes? Like a rounded tower, instead of the square boxes???? How well does the steel do underground?? (An interesting basement if we buried them). Stuff like this I want to know much more about. Can they be made to look like normal homes from the inside? Instead of looking like the interior of the death-star? Basically, I am very interested in this idea that, perhaps it is possible to buy several cheap metal frames, and still come out with a cool lookin home. If anyone has more information on actual DIY construction guides for this type of thing, I would be very thankful if you would share that information with me. Thank you for your time :-)
Rusty exposed metal bars? I have a garden home built in 96. Above my garage door, my front door and my front double windows runs some type of metal bar that runs horizontal to the ground. Its thin, maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of an inch but then theres maybe 2.5-3 inches the long way showing. The problem is, everywhere the metal is exposed, its rusted. Im presuming I need sand paper and some kind of sealant. What exactly do I ask for at Lowes ? What kind of sand paper ? What kind of paint or sealant ? Was this supposed to be painted or treated and was not when the house was new or what ? Thanks

We have a 8yr old daughter and a 6 yr old son. My credit score is around 400 or so. ALot of people around here are building metal buildings and living in them since they are so cheap. We can have a building built and living in for 20,000.00. Thats an open floor plan but with bathrooms. Where can a person in our situation go to get financed. We understand we will be paying high interest rates. We just paid off our house and property today. We have approx 45,000.00 in equity in the real estate. Our house is 750sq ft. How can you replace plastic push-style water shut-off valves? My 5-year old home was built with the cheapest materials possible, including plastic water shut-off valves with round buttons that you push to shut off and pull to turn on. These are under all the sinks and toilets. Two of them no longer work...and I'd like to replace them all. Can I simply replace them with the standard metal turn-style valves? Any tips?
Metal or Brick Garden Border? I'm building a garden in the front of my new home and trying to figure out what the best type of border to go with. I have a friend who's a landscaper who says to use the steel garden edging because it's maintenance free and will hold up. My fiance wants to use decorative bricks (from Lowes / Home Depot) but I'm told after a couple of years they will sink a bit and because un-level. Please help asap.

Wooden or Metal Ergonomic Kneeling Stool? I'm looking for a kneeling stool to use in my home office - I'll be using it 8.25 hours per day four days a week so not really 'light use'. I'm larger than average so want something sturdy that is not going to break! But the question is - is it better to buy a wooden kneeler or a metal one? One with manual adjustment or one with built in height adjustment (like a standard office chair)?
DIY Suggestions to build metal Dorm Loft? My son i starting school soon. The school has a loft bed rental program. It is currently 80 dollars a year and looks to increase roughly 10% a year. So for four years we will be spending a minimum of $360. this is the style: (not the supplier, but is the style): https://www.bedloft.com/ You have the option to loft your bed, but cannot use wood. And the head and foot boards must remain in the room. I saw some schools have risers like this: http://www.877bedloft.com/home.asp. And there are these two: http://www.instructables.com/id/Pipe-Loft-Bed/ http://www.instructables.com/id/Pipe-Dream-Bed/ My husband is pretty handy and has welding experience. Anyone have any experience doing this type of thing .. any suggestions or tips? Any plans or materials lists? Can anyone see any potential issues (other than transporting every year?) Thanks much.
Can you get a home loan for a metal building home? We are trying to buy a home that has been foreclosed on. The inside is exactly like any normal home, but the outside is constructed of the metal that shops are made of. We plan on putting up siding over the metal to make it look like a regular home. We just need to find a lender who gives fixed rate home loans for these types of homes. We don't want to miss out on this home. It's on 5 acres with a pond in the perfect location for us. We have been approved for a bridge loan to purchase the home and finish the inside (flooring, paint, light fixtures), but once it is finished we would need to refinance as a home loan and there is were the problem comes. Our bank will give us the bridge loan to finish the house, but not the home loan after it is done. They would be able to give us a variable rate balloon loan that we would have to renew every three years. We do not want to take the chance on our interest rate going up every three years. We will be able to put down at least 20% . Thanks!
Can I build a slide directly onto a hillside (no stairs) for young children? A children's center near me has a nice steep hillside that they've put a metal slide directly on. The kids can climb the hill and slide down with no danger of falling off. How would I build something similar in my own backyard? Can you buy the metal slide part without the ladder section? Could I have a piece of sheet metal made into a slide at my local home depot?
Have you ever walked barefoot across a road during a hot summer day? Have you ever tried picking up a metal? object laying in the sun at noon? Have you ever walked barefoot across a road at night? Well, we are paving over countless acres of land through roads and parking lots, we are continually building steel and brick buildings, asphalt covered roofs on homes, not to mention how much deforestation is going on. Are we slowly warming up nthe temperatures through this progress as it's called. Roads, parking lots, and buildings hold heat all night until the next day when the sun heats them up again, SuperMalls, huge city practically paved from end to end all over the world, replacing nice, cool, grassy meadows or forests. Has anyone ever considered this?
Who should design my green/eco friendly home 30 Ml west of Portland, OR? We want to have built a solar/green/eco friendly home about 30 miles west of Portland, Oregon, in the country. I need an architect who is not too fancy and doesn't overcharge, but is competent, has contacts, experienced, and good ideas for folks who choose not the mainstream but something beautiful and unique. We want the house built only to sheetrock as we want to do much of the inside/finishing work ourselves. We read Mother Earth Mag and like the back-to-basics things we see in there. We would rather have quality than quantity and love the wood/rock/metal combination with earthy tones. Budget is $200,000 max including permits, etc. Already have well, electricity, and septic on site.
Best way to filter natural clay? The guy I work for has a lawn made of solid clay, I was planting some bushes over there this past Friday and decided to take home some of it and see if I could filter out all the small rocks, grass, mulch, stuff like that. I put it in a 5 gallon bucket of water to soften up, and then I was going to pass it through a metal screen filter I built real fast. But it makes it way to watery. So how would be the best way to filter this natural clay?
