Building a green home in Ohio? I am really struggling to find builders in Ohio (preferably Northeastern Ohio) that build "green" homes. I have found several outside the state, but I would prefer to support the local economy. Please help me find information about builders in Northeastern Ohio, or perhaps a site that can refer me to builders in my area. I also would like to know about "green" model homes in Ohio, pricing per sq. ft., etc.
Need info on building green home? My husband and I are going to build our first home and we'd like to build green. The problem is I'm not sure what kind of things can be done. I've heard of the more common things such as the solar panels but I'd like info on other things I haven't heard of. I'm having a hard time finding info online. Another problem is that in my area, building green is not at all popular. I don't even know the cost difference in building such a home. Please help.
Environmentally friendly (green) home building question? I live in Ohio, I'm fascinated with the whole green Home/Business building idea, I'm obsessed with the Planet Green channel, and I know in the next few years demand is going to sky rocket. The problem is, I don't know how to build houses, and do I have to go to school to build green. And if so where is the closest school?

Do the recipients of charities,in which green homes are built for, become more aware of environmental issues? •Do people living in these green homes feel they are healthier? •Do they feel more concerned about environmental issues? •Are they happy enough about their green homes to where the feel they should promote and tell their friends and family about the benefits of living green? •Are people aware that by living in these homes, the environment benefits?

What is the most innovative idea that can be incorporated into building a green, energy-efficient home? This could be anything when constructing a home from scratch to renovating an existing building. Examples: use of compact florescent lighting, cellulose insulation, xeriscaping, etc. Thanks in advance!!
I am building a home and want to make smart green choices.? I am building a new home and want to make smart Green choices. I would love to go all the way but some green products are pricy! I am a first time home buyer and have a limited budget. We upgraded to double paned windows and more insulation. I can't make anymore construction upgrades because it has been started but it is time to pick out furniture/appliances/flooring. What are good choices to make? What is the most imapctful??
Is building a "green" home cheaper then using standard materials? My boyfriend and I are going to start building a new home. I was wondering what the price difference could be per sq ft. if we used eco-friendly materials? Standard materials are $90-$115 per sq. ft. if I am correct. Has anyone built an all eco-friendly house?
I want to build a green home in Minnesota. Where do I begin? I would like to purchase land outside of Minneapolis and build a green home. Any suggestions? What about grants?
I want to build a enviro-friendly "green" house. Where can I find plans and costs for LEED and green homes? I need architechtural plans and realistic way to cost out a "green" home less than or about 2000 or so sf. Here is what I want: -passive solar -Depending on costs: --gray water recycling --under floor radient heating --consider alternative construction like straw bale/rammed earth or modular --recycled materials for insulation --bamboo --natural materials --solar panels --heat pump I'd really like to do it right but I'm of moderate income and single middle aged woman. I need it to be affordable. I'm in Alabama and few do this. I need to keep humidity and heat and climate in mind. Under or around 2000 sf Any info on financing for green homes would be welcome too;
Is there a way an individual can utilize a massive amount of free wood chips to form building material? My mom's about to have an oak tree taken down in her back yard. It's humongous, and they will be bring in two trucks, with one doing all the chipping as it's coming down. I think it would be a shame for all those wood chips to be taken away if they can serve some useful purpose. I have no way of compressing them into anything like sheets or boards for building. But I was wondering if there's any way to compound the wood chips with another material(s) and a bonding agent to form blocks of some sort using a RAM or block forms. I was thinking I might at least experiment, since I'm planning to build a green home in the future, and have sufficient space to store the raw material and finished products.
Help me with my paper on Green Homes!!? I'm supposed convince home-developers to build more green homes. What would be a good argument to convince them? Thanks so much! Thanks. I'm mostly trying to convince those big home-development companies to build more of them.
where can you buy green building products in the seattle area? anyone know where you can buy green building products, especially interior finish products (tile, flooring, carpet, etc.) in the seattle area? any one stop shops like Home Depot/Lowes that are green?
what method of home building would you choose ? and why please? I am looking for A fairly inexpensive green home building technique that will provide maximum energy efficiancy. To be built in A moderate climate ( less than 30 in. snow per year summer highs around 80's ) I have looked at strawbale ,cob, adobe, earthbag, & rammed earth, But sorting out actual info is difficult. Any one out there that has actualy build one of these ? Can you share some thoughts ? costs, permits, insurance, etc.?
How does the use of green building products effect the appraisal value of a home? I recently built a house and was told by an appraiser that the value of the house doesn't reflect the products used to build. I don't understand this since I've laways heard that Granite countertops increases the value of a home. So which is it?
Why are you against Green or environmentalist thinking? I am just trying to understand why some people are so vehemently opposed to doing and using "green" things that help the environment. I just don't understand why... it saves money, it saves the environment and it helps to reduce pollution. Regardless of weather or not you "believe" in global warming (as if it is a religion) do people still not see all of the positive benefits of using green products and building green LEED certified homes and buildings? I'm really confused and would like real answers from real people who are against environmentalism. thanks Reganomics Hooked on Logic's Profile, I know what you mean about the political aspect of it all. The funny thing is I guess I would consider myself a conservative, maybe even a republican although I have major issues with the neo-conservative republican "thought process" (or lack there of). The people I meet who are so against the "green libral stuff" are all neo-cons, but isn't saving the environment and becomming less dependant on foriegn oil... conserving? I just dont get it. Chuck, I dissagree, I dont see whats wrong with making "green" solutions profitable. It creates more job and eventually that will drive the prices down due to competitivenes. Peppersh, green things are not going to cause more people to starve. Its just a market shift, a solar panel plant will provide jobs just like a coal mine, they are just different. The fact remains, we are a capitalistic society and this new movement will create alot of new jobs, hell its already doing so. What we need to look out for is stupidity... For instance, corn ethanol as someone pointed out earlier, takes way more energy to produce than just burning gass, so it is just plain stupid to look at it as an alternative energy source. The wood and gas fireplaces, although I havent heard about that, is again not a good move, but then again having a fireplace is not too smart either. Fireplaces do not warm a home, they actually draw air out of the house making your heating system have to work harder.
FHA Loans and Green Homes? I found a home that is close ro being complete and was build green and completely sustainable. I am wondering if I can get an FHA loan for it since it uses rainwater collection (5000 gallon tanks) and uses Eloo toilets and enviro septic? Can I get waivers if this is a common practice in my area? I love close to Austin, TX and they are really on the green and sustainable forefront. I really like this place and would appreciate any info. Thanks
Building Green: Are Cobb Cottages coming Back? Has anyone seen all the new ideas, rather very old, on building green, out of earthen structures? There is a company, the Organ Cobb Company that is treaching people have to build their homes out of mud. It sounded like a bad idea, until I read how the weatherize the structure with lime. They cost a fraction of what a normal modern house cost to build, plus if build the old way, are very green with little to no pollution, or hardly a carbon footprint in their operation. Only problem is that most cities and towns discourage these structures because they do not have building codes that would cover cobb construction. If you wanted to build tomorrow, you would have to build with partial wood (a very unnecessary and costly addition). Gaia Raain, same here. My question do you think Cob is coming back, after a thousand years of virtually being forgotten. Yet the homes that were built a 1000 years ago, still stand, some next to the coast in England. They stay cooler (depending on the roof), and require little energy to run on. Why is it still off the books, if only postive?
Is the Labour parties stance of building more homes in the uk realistic? With regards to green policies such as keeping green spaces and can it go on forever and be practical with regards to issues such as waste management and water supplies? Are they looking at the whole picture? Also with land so scarce and at a premium- due to excessive demand- will these new homes really be affordable housing? Loads of good answers here- thanks everybody.
How to best mitigate noise from entering a "green" residential building located in a noisy city? Green buildings often emphasize use of "natural ventilation" which is great in theory, but in the city seems like it would be problematic as noise from traffic, restaurants/clubs, and general city noise would enter into the home. What techniques can be utilized to decrease the amount of sound and reverberation that enters into a "green" building?
I am spending money to build a green home so....? I personally believe that global warming is a natural cyclical event...but I also believe in a clean enviroment and each of us can help clean it up. I am building an environmently clean home and realize that this will help with any human contributions to the issue. My energy costs will be lower also. My question is with the thousands of dollars to do this what addional benefits will i have and are there any governmental incentives to do this. I would think that there would be more than just the little tax breaks you get when a person is doing such a huge project.
what are the different types of "Green Homes"..help please? for school project i am researching about -different types of green homes -how they are built -how they function thanks
What is the Best Degree that can help me with my years of Work Experience to improve my pay in a new job? Which is greener; Building a home or Buying a home? So I'm becoming more interested in being self sufficient and environmentally friendly. I would like to build a dream home out of straw bales and mud on a farm in the country with solar panels and a recycling water system. Then I started wondering if buying an existing house then using recycled building materials for refurbishing so the house can be more environmentally friendly. So, which is better at achieving my goal, building or buying?
Looking for people Remodeling or Building home in the Los Angeles, CA area? I work for Green Planet Building and I am looking for people in Los Angeles or Orange County that are doing remodeling or building a home. Where is the best place to get referrals? Where would you recommend I go to find new clients?
Should new homes be built on 'released' green belt land? As a school project, we had some councilors come in, and i was talking to one of them about new homes as this is what our project focused on, and i was shocked when he pointed out on the map of our town where the already existing cramped new housing estate, was planning to be extended by Persimmon Homes, building a further 6,000 homes on the greenbelt surrounding our town. He said this had to be done to mean the criteria set out by the government. He also asked me my opinion was of the development on the greenbelt between our town and a village which is part of our town, but is separated by green belt. He said we should incorporate the village and develop right up to it to make it part of the town. I was horrified and told him this. Persimmon are already building on the brown belt of the old gas works, and they've already redeveloped the old rail way yard... And the land was previously farms, i think they were both privately run. One was bought and turned into the existing development, with the original barn buildings being converted and making up the heart of the development. Recently there was a fire at the second farm, and in the paper it reported the fire was at the farm 'owned by Persimmon Homes.'
Green home rebates or tax credits? We are considering the purchase of a green built home. They build homes with the highest quality, most enviro friendly and health conscious products available. They also use high effeciency appliances (f, s, w&d, dw, hwt, furnace), doors and windows. My question is - are there government rebates (ie they mail you rebate check, not related to taxes) or are there tax credits/deductions available to us for making such a purchase? BTW we live in Canada. Thanks The website looks great, but I live in Canada, I need Canadian info!
What is that show like worlds greenest homes? What is that show like worlds greenest homes where this english guy follows people as they build their homes? The introduction music is the piano.
Why do people build homes with more space than they need? I am not sure why people build 5000 sq ft homes on 1/4 acre lots, then complain about there is not green space. If you want to conserve land please stop building monster houses.
What is the job title for those who design and build Eco-Homes? you know, Green Homes! ...and what courses in college would you have to take?

I have family that did in floor heating from their lake, cement floors, all windows etc and that helps...just trying to find out more myself so i have more control at building time...most R2000 homes arent quite as green as Id like...looking to save some money even if I start small but leave room for more as I go.

Is it possible to build a 'green' barn? If so, how? Please answer!? In a couple of years, I'd like to build a completely 'green home', meaning a home which is completely sustainable, and environmentally friendly. I am very involved with animals, and I ride horses. So, is it possible to build an equally 'greem barn'? What materials would I use, and any other details? Thank you Best answer receives ten points!
http://www.greenerpeople.com/forum/greener-building-and-remodeling/437-buried-homes.html? Someone asked a question "is it better to live in house above ground, underground, etc. I found the above web site to verify my answer. How do I find my original answer to the question upon return.
Who here does not recycle? I need opinions.? I need opinions on why people are against building green homes. I am not looking for positive opinions about going green, I only need bad opinions about it. Please answer or send me a website article, blog, or anything that would help me. Please and thank you!
Could we promote green businesses by building apartments for employees on top of business buildings? Could we promote employers to provide apartment homes built on top of business for employees? I mean, what if every employer, or every business building had a apartment complex built on top of the business. And, if the employers got a huge tax break for each family living in the apartments built above their business. That would cut down on gas right? Affordable housing for the poor or middle-class, high tax breaks for employers, and cleaner air and less gas consumption for all. Is there anything we can do to promote this? This would reduce congestion on the highways, reduce the need for oil, and has many other benefits. James Star, I live only about 20 miles north of Seattle, and the prices for even a 2-bedroom apartment is staggering. It's hard to touch anything for less than $1000 per month.
What is the point of closing Cabrini Green Projects? Won't anywhere they send the tenants become just as bad? Cabrini Green was arguably one of the most violent, messed up places around. But buildings don't cause drug crime, rapes, murders, etc.People do,so wherever they send the leeches and savages residing in Cabrini Green will become just as bad soon enough. Then what, throw more money at the problem,by building new homes again for loafers, leeches and savages?
How can I hook up a generator? I am building a green home - solar panels on the roof, etc. I was wondering if it was possible to use an exercise bike to generate electricity in connexion with a generator. If so, does anyone know how to do such a thing? I am looking to store any electricity generated to help light my home.

Who should design my green/eco friendly home 30 Ml west of Portland, OR? We want to have built a solar/green/eco friendly home about 30 miles west of Portland, Oregon, in the country. I need an architect who is not too fancy and doesn't overcharge, but is competent, has contacts, experienced, and good ideas for folks who choose not the mainstream but something beautiful and unique. We want the house built only to sheetrock as we want to do much of the inside/finishing work ourselves. We read Mother Earth Mag and like the back-to-basics things we see in there. We would rather have quality than quantity and love the wood/rock/metal combination with earthy tones. Budget is $200,000 max including permits, etc. Already have well, electricity, and septic on site.
I want to go green, I've started by purchasing a 3pk of compact fluorescent light bulbs&reusable grocery bags What else can I do? I do plan to replace the remainder of my lamps with compact fluorescent light bulbs. I am interested in installing solar panels. I've been researching some for other ways and things I can do to go green. I'm sure there is more I can do. Could I do the same with building materials for a renovation or something similar using green, sustainable materials, such as douglass fir, bamboo, recycled glass? I would like to eventually build a home with green principles and be good to the environment and also have a dwelling that is also good for my climate zone. Any suggestions are appreciated and I would like to thank you in advance for your assistance and suggestions. Have a pleasant day :):):)

The largest CERTIFICATED GREEN home in the United States? I would like to know the square footage of the largest Certificated Green home in the United State-when was it built-bywho-where is it located
Does anyone have any personal experiences trying to build green/alternative/low-impact? My husband and I want to (someday) build a home as green as possible--with composting toilet, recycled/reclaimed materials, passive heating/cooling etc. I am concerned that the local authorities' regulations and ordinances will be tough to deal with since it will be "unusual" in their eyes. We don't want to go against any regulations, but it may be hard to do something different than the traditional stick-built or pre-fab house. Does anyone have any similar experiences? How did you deal with it? Especially looking for info relating to Maryland, but will appreciate anything.
can septic tanks be considered "green"? I am doing a group project to build a green home - one that uses little power and is ecologically friendly. one of the requirements of the project is to specify what is done with the sewage waste and i am curious if a septic tank would work with this project or not... yes? no? suggestions?
If you're making a Green Home, where would you build it? I mean, you would wwant to make it somewhere sunny, for solar panels, but somewhere that it was fairly windy, for wind power. And you wouldn't want water to freeze over in the winter - any ideas? Thanks! :-)
Ways to build a totally green home? In the future, I'm determined to build a completely environmentally friendly house, and besides these, are there any other ways to build it 'green'? Using non-toxic non-VOC paints and finishes Using sustainable harvested, FSC certified hardwood, or bamboo Using recycled materials, like recycled plastic bottle carpeting Using non-VOC glues and adhesives Buying eco-friendly furniture and decorations, or buying furniture and decorations that will last a long time, so they don't have to be reproduced Using energy-efficient lighting Installing Energy Star rated appliances Maximizing natural lighting Using native plants, and drought resistant landscaping (zeroscaping) Planting native trees Recycling Reusing waste in order to create compost Using a recycled or eco-friendly insulation, such as denim or soy Any others that I missed?
Green Home!? Please Help!? I am considering building a COMPLETLY green home, using not even the slightest bit of fossil fuels etc. For a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom home with features like solar panels and such how much would you estimate the cost to be?
I am building a new home, im terrible at decorating. What sofa color works with olive walls? I am building a very basic two story home, downstairs having a family room den( computer room) kitchen with nook, walk in pantry, half bath and laundry. Upstairs i have split into two suites, each side have a large bedroom, ensuite and 9x10 walk in closet. End of the hall is a walk in linen closet 8x8. Very simple and basic. I like the greens yellows and browns, but have no idea what to do. I have gone to four " interior decorators" but all of them come up with something different. Just looking for some clues or ideas i suppose.. thanks
Does anyone out there live in a kit house built in the round style? I want to know all aout it.? I have seen homes built completely round and are so unique. They are kit homes and shipped from the manufacturer, I would like to know about the experience with them and if it was all worth it. Would you do things differently and were there any serious drawbacks to the process. What is the shipping cost to the site. This type of home is Green and withstands all types of storms, etc, due to the contruction of being in the round design.
How do I take care of my little green sea turtles? I've asked the sales person and was told to change the water every two or three days. I know I've got to do more than that. I would like to build a little "home" for them but don't know how. And, I don't want to go through all of that if I have to change the water every three days. Can anybody provide some info on this? I purchased them at the mall; I don't want to just let them go cause they may not make it. At the same time, I don't want to harm them by not providing for them correctly. Do any of you know if they will get larger than the size of a half dollar coin?
Are there grants for going green? If so where do we start? We're planning to build a new home in Darke County, Ohio. We would like our home to be as self sufficient as possible. We are on the Ohio/Indiana line so would be easily available to be a speck home.
planning to build a indoor putting green? Hello everyone! I went to a golf store recently and fell in love with the indoor putting area and wanted to create one in my house. Has anyone build one in their home? Just wanted some extra tips or advice...thanks in advance!!!
Why is there not more passive solar homes ? I am a Greek ,and the Greeks are the inventor of solar heat.I think that with all the green house effect, that Gov. should give more incentive to people who build a solar home. What do you folks think about it ?
Building a house by yourself vs. Company-built house? What's more feasible? I want the house to be as eco-firendly, self-sustainable and low on carbon FP as possible. The spot is located in a gardening community (or so it's called in Russia), NW to Moscow. What kind of water supply to use? What about power (there are issues with the supply because of limited plant capacity there)? I'd love to have it solar, but I doubt there is more than 3-month worth of sunlight a year. So any ideas of building a nice little green home that can be mostly self-sustainable are more than welcome. Thanks
Have you built a putting green with I/O carpet and sand? I've seen articles using the green indoor /outdoor carpteting from a home improvement center and sweeping in some sand to keep the tufts/blades standing up straight. The sand holds the turf down. I'm not expecting PGA quality.
green homes? I want to build a house that is energy efficient and wanted to know how I might build one that stands on its own.
What is the best Green Degree? I'm interested in studying environmental design, but I'm unsure about a major. I'm interested in Urban ecology, Industrial/urban/environmental development and design (large and small scale), and sustainable business. Any suggestions on programs/schools/majors that would make the best use of the progress the green building movement is making. Not only would I be interested in building from scratch, but really updating exisiting homes and businesses to be more environmentally mindfull. Something like the Green Bakery http://www.buildagreenbakery.com/... where all aspects are considered.
