Is home depot expo design consultant good? For a retainer fee of $750, Home Depot Expo will provide me a designer who would work with me on finding items for my home and color blending. When I use their service (installation and products sold in home depot) that equals 5k or more, my $750 will be refunded. Saleslady said the designers are not on commision so they are not going to make a profit on selling me any certain item. Also, installation fees are basically set. Doesn't this sound like a good deal? I need help with finding the right color blend for my living and dining room walls, hardwood floors , new cabinets for the kitchen and new window treatment. Sales lady said they can help me co-ordinate colors and someone would come over to my house for 2 hours next week. What do you think?

where to get ideas on modern/contemporay design for home renovation? so im buying a house and will be renovating it. i like modern/contemporary design so will probably be overhauling the interior alot. now i just needs ideas; i went to both home depot and expo design center to see what they have and that was good. also looking on the websites of a couple of las vegas casinos that i am a fan of (TheHotel, Wynn, Belaggio, skylofts...) and that was good too. also checked out armani casa. anyone else have ideas as to where else to look for inspiration? many thanks

what brand of engineering hardwood floor 5in wide? Sorry but I am still stuck on re-doing my whole living room. I was originally thinking of Mirage Maple wood Arizona but I found out the floor guy made a mistake. They don't come in 5 inches width. Any other brand that is good? Home depot Expo said Bruce hardwood engineerring floors are not good. Is 5 inch what I should use for a modern and traditional look which is the type of furniture I have for dining and living room that are connected.

Why did Expo Design Center go out of business? I was shocked to learn that Expo Design Center is going out of business. Every time I went it seemed to be doing well, with customers streaming in steadily. They had a vast selection of appliances, cabinets, flooring, and most everything homes need. In my MBA program we studied Home Depot's growth strategy, which was to expand aggressively and run complacent competition out of business. (Home Depot launched Expo Design Center 12 years ago.) This meant taking on a lot of debt, which they paid off by slowly jacking up their prices once their competition folded. They staggered their expansion in order not to take on too much debt at the same time. Did Home Depot use the same strategy for Expo Design Center? If so, why didn't it work this time? Also if so, are companies generally one-trick ponies when it comes to strategy? Thanks for your consideration.

Expo Design Center, through its parent company, The Home Depot, gave this statement that "Employees will receive at least 60 days of severance pay, health insurance and job-placement help." In fact, the company paid 40 days of severance, claiming that was what they "meant."

Hamton Bay Ceiling Fan glass shade replacement? We bought a Hampton Bay Aileron 52" ceiling fan about 10 years ago at Expo Design center, which was owned by Home Depot. Fast forward 10 years later, and my son broke the glass shade that goes with it. I'm trying to buy a new one, and can't find it anywhere. I'm wondering if the UPC codes used to scan merchandise at store registers are permanently assigned, or can they/are they recycled if a product leaves the market? I have a UPC from 5 years ago that I'm trying to discover who the vendor is, but can't find it online. The store that sold the item, EXPO Design Centers (a subsidiary of Home Depot stores), went out of business a few years ago. I've tried a few online UPC searches through Google, but the code is not located.
